Board & Committee Members
The primary mission of the Gulf of Maine Ocean Racing Association (GMORA) is to foster high levels of race management, sportsmanship, fairness, and participation in sailboat racing in Maine.
In support of that mission, GMORA has assumed the responsibility of PHRF-New England handicapping for the Gulf of Maine Fleet (GOM), sponsored a US Sailing Association (USSA) race officer training program to increase the number and availability of certified race officers in Maine, conducted informative and instructional racing seminars, and introduced a novice/new racer membership program. When asked, GMORA members and directors have been race officers, judges, and race management teams at sanctioned GMORA regattas, such as in 2006 when GMORA race officers assisted/conducted the 2006 Centerboard Yacht Club, Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club, the Camden-Castine, and the MS Regattas.

A race management (RM) committee of GMORA exists to assist member organizations in the direct planning, organization, and conduct of sanctioned GMORA regattas. This RM activity of GMORA is consistent with the notion that GMORA is a service organization for its members and member organizations and that it remains dedicated to improving the quality and participation in GOM racing.
GMORA has policies, procedures, and personnel designed to aid member organizations in regatta management. They are:
It is a policy of GMORA to provide gratis qualified race officers, judges, and other race management personnel to member yacht clubs and organizations.
It is a policy of GMORA to provide gratis race management consultation services, including sample template race documents, that may be accessed by member organizations. The race documents include the Notice of Race, the Sailing Instructions, and other miscellaneous documents in use at sanctioned regattas.
There are no formal procedures in place for requesting race management assistance. Just ask GMORA.
Requests for assistance should be made to the GMORA president or to the committee chair. GMORA will make every attempt to support its member organizations. The ability for GMORA to respond to requests and assist member organizations may be affected by the time limitations and prior commitments of resources.
