'round Southport Race

  • Southport Ialand ME (map)

The Southport Yacht Club and Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club are proud to present the annual ‘Round Southport Race. This race returned in 2011 with a new format recapturing the essence of the original race that was held from 1968 to 1982. While we can no longer race through the Townsend Gut, this race does go around most of the island. The ‘Round Southport race is fun race for boats of all sizes often drawing 20 or more boats. Past participants have ranged from a Herreshoff 12½ (Doughdish) and Club 420 to a Morris M52.

The race is a 9.55nm Pursuit Race which in 2018 will start near Tumbler Island and finish  on the west side of Southport in Ebenecook Harbor (north end of Townsend Gut)  with a party afterwards at Southport YC. There is a cruising class, racing class, and J/80 class. In addition to the individual boats competing, the top three finishing boats from BHYC and SYC will determine the club that wins the coveted Trash Can Trophy for 2018. Southport YC has it currently, can they hold it? This race will count as a GMORA Race Day and will be scored for the Boothbay Region and towards overall trophies. This is a fun and challenging race for sailors of all ages.
