Maine Rocks Race

Established in 2008 and sponsored by the Rockland Yacht Club, the Maine Rocks Race covers a distance of about 112 nautical miles.  The course takes the fleet from Rockland to Matinicus Rock, then to Mount Desert Rock (hence the name of the race), then around Matinicus Rock again before a return to Rockland.

The event is designed for short-handed racing and is open to boats crewed by one or two people. Membership in RYC is not required.  The race offers participants the experience of sharpening short-handed offshore sailing skills and refining systems and procedures for short-handed passagemaking.

The Rockland Yacht Club is very pleased and proud to have this race included as a qualifier for the Ocean Planet Short-handed Trophy.

Maine Retired Skippers Race

The Maine Retired Skippers Race has run continuously since 1952. Originally a match race between two retired professional skippers, the race has evolved into a “pursuit race”. The racecourse is a twelve-mile triangle, which begins at the entrance to Castine harbor.

Since its inception, the purpose of this race has been to allow retired skippers, aged 65 or older, to show their boat handling skills at the helm of sailing vessels designed primarily for cruising. Fifteen trophies are awarded (sorry, you can’t take them home), and the winners are recorded in the Race History. While race boats are not expressly excluded, each vessel is expected to contain full cruising amenities for a boat its size.

MS Harborfest Regatta

MS Harborfest Regatta

  • National Multiple Sclerosis Society (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

The MS Regatta is at the heart of MS Harborfest Weekend.  Now in its 36th year, the MS Regatta is the longest running and largest charitable sailing event in Northern New England and on the GMORA Circuit.

Pre-race festivities:  Friday, Aug, 18th:  Skippers meeting at 6pm, followed by the MS Benefit Auction featuring over 300 items, food and drinks.  Skippers can earn additional auction passes by fundraising for crew and guests.  Auction tickets can be purchased at the door.

Amazing Racing Experience:  Saturday, August 19th events start with the first gun at 12:30pm with the MS Regatta's expert race committee overseeing three courses of varying lengths through Portland Harbor to Clapboard Island.  We have racing, cruising, one-design and classic divisions.  Class sizes are kept small and well separated to reduce stress on our novice skippers and crews as well.

Post Race Celebration:  At the conclusion of the race, join all skippers and crew at the Post Race Party!  Enjoy a hearty feast donated by local businesses, including Longhorn Steak House, Cozy Harbor lobsters, and Shipyard Brewing beverages.  Awards will be presented, including the highly coveted Greenhorn Award for Best Rookie boat and the Team Spirit Award, which receives a five pound whoopee pie.  Additional tickets can be earned through fundraising or can be purchased 2 weeks prior to the event.

Making a Difference:  The MS Harborfest Regatta is the largest regatta in Casco Bay and on the GMORA circuit.  There are a lot of points at stake for those competing for the Dirigo Bowl.  But more importantly, the event raises thousands of dollars which help fund local services for over 3,000 Mainers affected by MS so they can live their best possible life, and fund research initiatives to STOP MS, RESTORE what it has taken, and END MS forever.

The MS Harborfest Regatta is a highly anticipated tradition spanning 36 years.  Come this year to experience a Great Maine Sailing Adventure, knowing that you are making a difference for someone right here in Maine.

Monhegan Regatta

Monhegan Regatta

Experience what real open ocean racing is all about.  This longer-distance, overnight race puts the focus on endurance, navigating and strategy, as well as boat speed.  Multiple class breakdowns and varying length races for both fully crewed and shorthanded sailors make up the Monhegan event.

The race coupled with a terrific pre-race party makes this event extra-special.  This year we intend to finish the races at Portland Head Light so racers can avoid the oft-times frustrating situation of racing back into Casco Bay in light air against the tides.

Moorings are available for boats attending this event.  Just drop us an email letting us know your needs.  And radio our Waterfront on Channel 68 when you arrive, and they will direct you to an appropriate mooring.

Accept the challenge:  Come to the Monhegan!

Eggemoggin Reach Regatta

Skipper's meeting is Saturday AM 9 under the pole building

The Eggemoggin Reach Regatta began humbly in 1985 with thirteen wooden boats and a dream. Organizer Steve White along with Frank Hull of Brooklin Boatyard first envisioned the race as an opportunity for wooden boat owners to get to together and enjoy each others company as well as to compete. The race quickly grew to 125 boats and is now co-hosted by Brooklin Boatyard and Rockport Marine.. The Regatta's 15-mile course has remained the same over the years and only once was the race cancelled due to fog. (The party still happened though!) The Camden Feeder Regatta and the Castine Classic Yacht Race soon joined the ERR to create a truly spectacular three-day event.

We want to thank WoodenBoat Publications for the generous use of their grounds for our event.
